What we treat

Prescription drug addiction

Nobody plans to become dependent on a medication a doctor prescribed. Painkillers after surgery, something for anxiety, something to focus. The line gets crossed slowly, which is most of why it goes unnoticed.

What it looks like

The prescription runs out before the month does. There is a second doctor, or a first one who is not told everything. Old pain comes back between doses, or a new symptom appears that only the medication settles. People in this situation often have a real medical reason for having started, and that reason does not disappear because dependence has developed on top of it.

What helps

Two things have to happen at once. The dependence needs to be treated, medically and safely, because several of these medications cannot be stopped abruptly. And the original problem needs a plan that is not the drug. We work with the prescribing side of that rather than pretending the pain or the anxiety was imaginary, and the therapy addresses what has built up around the medication since.

A private next step

Questions about someone specific are best answered in a private conversation, at your pace.

There is no pressure here. When you are ready to talk, we will listen.
